Newport is a quintessential beach town. It’s a mixed bag of salty dive bars to high-end retail and dining, all coexisting in one charming stretch of beach surrounding a bay. The area is full of activity with people surfing and paddleboarding, enjoying afternoon Duffy boat rides, shopping on Balboa Island, and taking bike rides down the Peninsula. Its a place I fell in love with for it’s picturesque beachfront lifestyle and then again, years later, for a reason that I didn’t see coming.
As a child, I would spend hours playing in the sand and collecting seashells, drawn to the ocean's beauty. Growing older, I found solace in the ocean, a place of refuge from life's stresses. As fate would have it, the ocean tides would bring love in my life, a surfer from Newport Beach. Born and raised there, he lived and breathed the beach lifestyle. Our favorite time together was enjoying the simplest of things. Morning walks along the beach with a hot cup of coffee. Holding hands while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean during golden hour. I love to sit on the shore with my toes in the warm sand and watch him surf his favorite spots: The Point, Blackies, the River Jetties. After surfing, the scent of coconut surf wax, driftwood, mahogany and dried sea salt was like a cologne that followed him everywhere he went. I loved it so much I memorialized it in our NEWPORT scent. It encapsulates the beauty and essence of a simple beach life shared together.
"I will love you as the sea loves. In gentle waves and in ferocious storms." - Nick Frederickson
