The scent of coconut, sun-kissed skin, and salt is one of my earliest memories. It reminds me of warm beach days spent with family. My mom putting sunscreen on herself and applying extra on my fair skin. As a teenager I would relax on the coast, basking in the sun and lathering myself with coconut-scented oil, tanning my skin to a golden hue.
It’s a scent that brings me back to happy memories with my children. Days spent filled with laughter as they splash and play in the beach waves. Sunscreen breaks in between sandy hands and excited squeals as they show me the sand crab they found. Holding my napping babies on my chest as their siblings make sandcastles at my feet. The golden hour reflecting off the water and my babies' blond hair, running and splashing cool water as we chase each other in the last minutes of light. The day fleeting and the sun setting as God watercolors the sky in brilliant shades of orange, yellow, and pink. Nothing in life compares to being on the beach at sunset with my loved ones.
